The 2012 Mongol Rally will reach its climax this week with the final teams expected to reach the finish line in Ulan Bator, Mongolia on Saturday. To celebrate the end of the 2012 season The Adventurists have launched a new video: ‘Top Ten Most Stupid Ways to Reach Mongolia’. The rally, which is famous for featuring some of the world’s most unusual driving teams, has previous included competitors driving everything from a black cab and an American school bus, to a conservatory on wheels.

The charity rally, which is a 10,000 mile adventure across mountains, deserts and some of the most remote terrain on the planet, raised over £300,000 for charity in 2012, with 265 teams (766 individuals) taking part.

Billed as the world’s most extreme driving adventure – with no set route, no back up cars and a rule that vehicles must not have an engine size bigger than 1.2 litres – this year’s rally was the toughest yet, with teams facing torrential rain, flash floods and swollen rivers across Mongolia.

This year, teams continued the tradition, with standout competitors including a couple on their honeymoon dressed as a bride and groom, a team driving a car with a bath tub on its roof and ‘The Wheelie Wanderers’ –three paraplegic wheelchair users who drove through Iraq, Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan completely unsupported.

Tom Morgan, whose company The Adventurists founded the rally in 2004, said:

“2012 has definitely been our toughest year yet with Mongolia seeing more rain than it has in years. What the teams have achieved is truly incredible, raising a huge amount for charity and overcoming some big challenges”.
