The Sinai desert throbs with history. Sited in the crossroads of the ancient world, travelers have crossed the region at their peril for thousands of years – and now you can join them, thanks to WideWorld’s charity partner.
We last featured the charity as they brought relief to the stricken island of Haiti. Now, leading overseas development agency CARE International is seeking adventurers with a heart to take on a demanding hiking challenge in the heart of Egypt’s Sinai Desert: the 2010 CARE Egypt Challenge, supported by Wide World.
The challenge, taking place on 22 - 25 October this year, will see participants tackle 3 mountains in 2 days, including sunset from the top of mount Sinai and a moonlit descent. Each site is rich in history, significant archaeological and religious sites and monuments. Mountains include St Catherine’s- UNESCO World Heritage site and, at 2644 metres, the highest peak in Egypt.
CARE Challenge Manager Neil Munro says: “This is a brand new event in CARE’s annual series of outdoor challenges. CARE UK have teamed up with CARE Egypt to offer participants the hiking experience of a lifetime whilst raising valuable funds to support CARE’s poverty fighting work- including projects helping children in the local area. This is a wonderful opportunity for participants to ‘give something back’.”

The experience includes 3 nights sleeping under the stars Bedouin-style. The fundraising target of £1,500 includes guides, accommodation, return transport from Cairo, luggage transfer between destinations via camel, food and refreshments throughout the trip.
