A new searchable archive of hiking and biking trails in North America has been launched. Sierra Club Trails is a collection of treks described by those who live and breathe outdoor adventure.
Simple navigation is aided by a search box facility, allowing fellow ramblers to locate information about specific trails. They can also add their own suggestions.
Visitors can create their own profile, letting them post events, lead discussion forums, share photos and pass comment on the site's On Track blog. You can also create groups based on a specific area of interest.
The Trails Activities tab employs a wiki-like editing feature. Trail Updates enable trekkers to provide current information, for example warning fellow trekkers to bring insect repellent and alerting them to adverse weather conditions.
The site has a social networking quality - it facilitates staying in touch with like-minded people and if people have met at a Sierra Club outing or other trip, they can share photos and plan get-togethers.
