Condoms to make beaches cleaner?

True Surfer Condoms, and only $1.36/pack

by Kelly Gray

10.08.2009

Used surfer condoms. Much cheaper than buying them new. And they even come with sand all over them, so at least you can fantasise about sex on the beach, with the waves lapping at your feet.

Gross? Yes, we agree. Thankfully these gritty rubber marvels aren't really for sale – this  pack of actual used condoms from Newport Beach, California, is part of a campaign called 'Catch of the Day' created by the Surfrider Foundation and the Saatchi & Saatchi global advertising firm to raise awareness about beach pollution.

The campaign collects rubbish from various beaches – from tin cans and plastic spoons to, er, condoms – and packages them up like fresh meat, selling them in the fresh fish section at the grocery store (so we're lead to believe). Though we can’t see the product being a big seller, the cause is certainly a worthy one for any and all environmentally-conscious surfers.
