Great Britain finished top of the medal table at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Medemblik, the Netherlands. Britain’s sailors took away three golds, two silvers and a bronze medal, beating the Dutch hosts in the fifth leg of the tournament.
In ideal conditions of steady winds and sunshine, Paul Goodison and Ed Wright were unstoppable in the Laser competition, and Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Ali Martin all won gold medals in the Women’s Match Racing event. Other Brits scoring well were silver medalists Megan Pascoe and Giles Scott, and Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison who won bronze in the 49er class.
"It's fantastic to come here and win in Holland," said Olympic Champion Paul Goodison (pictured after his Olympic win), celebrating his second consecutive World Cup victory. "It's a good feeling that I am sailing well after the Olympics. The real focus now is going to be on working on a few key things before we have the Worlds in Canada in August."
Team boss Stephen Parks agreed. "It's been a pleasing performance," but the pressure’s on for the team to maintain their high table positions at the next World Cup event in Kiel, Germany from 19-24 June, and the final ‘Sail for Gold Regatta’ in Great Britain this September.
