The record-breaking British freediver Sara Campbell has blacked out again trying to beat her own 96m record.
Just days after setting the new record for women’s freediving in April this year she reached the 100m milestone but passed out before surfacing, disqualifying the dive under international rules. Her latest attempts have been similarly frustrated.
She again picked up the tag at 100m depth on Thursday last week, but blacked out just metres from the end of her dive. On Saturday, against doctor’s advice, she attempted the dive again but returned after a 20m dive.
“It just didn’t feel right, so I came back up,” she told reporters.
Campbell, who earned the nickname ‘Mighty Mouse’ because of her incredible lung capacity, rocked the world of freediving in 2007 when she broke three records in two days, after only freediving for nine months. A former yoga teacher, she attributes her skill to natural ability and biological advantages.
