Muscle and joint rubbing gel to soothe aches and pains

Performance

When the adrenal surges die back and let you sleep, there’s one thing waiting after your post-active kip: aches. Joint and muscle pains are a nightmare that tell you you’ve pushed yourself. The trouble is, to push yourself hard each time you need something reliable to hand that relieves the symptoms.

WideWorld have been sent a small 50ml bottle of Blue Active Gel, a gel that’s been acclaimed by Runners World as well as several physios. Firstly, it doesn’t smell like a boy’s locker room. Secondly, it doesn’t burn through your skin like a hot pepper poultice. Thirdly, it seems to do the job of soothing your pains quite respectably.

With a faintly peppermint, cosmetic-type niff, Blue Active Gel sinks into your skin fast without greasy residue and – as far as we ascertained – without staining your clothes too. It feels extremely cooling as it becomes absorbed: we tried it on a dicky wrist and within minutes the effects kicked in, with the sensation of an icy breath up our sleeve. Not an unpleasant sensation, and one that appears to have alleviated all aches even after half an hour had passed.

The makers claim that its efficacy is down to a mixture of many ingredients: Golden Emu Oil, made famous by the likes of Paula Radcliffe; Glucosamine Sulphate, renowned for its beneficial effects on joints; Aloe Vera, one of today’s most popular natural remedies; MSM, a natural source of sulphur which is needed for healthy joints, ligaments and tendons, and Willow bark extract, ‘nature’s aspirin’, as they say.

Verdict

It’s easy to carry, won’t stink out your bag and does the job splendidly. Highly recommended.
