Navigon 2419 satnav
Promise
Feature-heavy satnav with an emphasis on helping you as a pedestrian.
Performance
The Navigon 2410 is a sleek little unit: a 3.5” display is bordered by a metal trim, and the whole package is only around 1cm deep. Smaller than a lot of phones, in fact, which is why this satnav is still relevant.
Phones these days are rammed with useful features – GPS being one of them. The Navigon answers back by coming complete with some really useful features: WideWorld love this device because it’s not all about driving. There’s plenty in there for the pedestrian and tourist too.
It comes with maps of the UK, Ireland and 40 European countries – basically everywhere bar Russia. While it comes with comprehensive driving features like free traffic updates, it’s also useful for walking. In pedestrian mode, the readout turns to portrait mode and makes the 2410 feel much more like a phone. It also uses 50% less power in pedestrian mode as its processor power is reduced and non-essential functions are deactivated.
There’s an E-compass on board too, and you can even punch in co-ordinates just as easily as an address.
Verdict
If you’re about to go on a Euro tour, something like this would be really handy: it’s rugged enough to take on your travels, handy enough to use even if you don't own a car, and at a price that won’t kill you if it goes walkies.
