Spot GPS tracker
Promise
The Spot beams directly to low-earth satellites and communicates your exact position. Your friends and the emergency services will know exactly where you are, whenever you want them to.
Performance
Rubberised and waterproof to 1m, the Spot can be submerged for 30 minutes, frozen solid and half-cooked and still beam its simple signal to satellites. It uses a simple three-function interface, with each button updating your online map and adding a message. One button tells your friends and family you are OK, one tells them you are in trouble, and the third button places a mayday with the nearest emergency services or rescue.
Verdict
We tried this out, and it really works. The web set-up for users is quite simple and intuitive, just a matter of filling in a few boxes. For the cost, it's really worth investing in one of these - if only to stop people worrying about whenever you're in the wild.
