Natalia Molchanova is the new World Champion freediver, diving to 101m on just one breath at the Ruler of the Deep competition in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt. Her dive time was three minutes and 50 seconds.

The Russian 47-year-old and current president of the Russian Federation of Freediving is the first woman in the world to reach 100m in Constant Weight freediving. This is her 25th world record, and she holds records in an incredible five (out of six) freediving disciplines.

She was Constant Weight world champion in 2005 and 2006, over and above the men’s category, before losing out to British freediver Sara Campbell, who dived to 96m earlier this year at the Vertical Blue competition, after trying for 100 metres.

Natalia said, “Today I did 101 because Sara before tried 100. Nobody tried it before me. Now, I tried it.”

Natalia’s other World Records include Static Apnea (time holding breath) at 8 minutes 23 seconds, and Dynamic Apnea (horizontal without fins) 160m.

The Ruler of the Deep competition was officially judged by AIDA (International Association for the Development of Freediving), and shown exclusively on The Underwater Channel.
