Planning the perfect adventure escape this weekend? Whether you're headed for the Brecon Beacons or to the beaches of Cornwall, a new website has been launched to save you from such travelling woes as traffic jams, road works and road accidents (though we hasten to add, it can’t prevent you from having one).
By visiting Frixo.com, who specialise in giving traffic reports for UK motorways you can plan your quickest route, receive information on speed limits and average speed of roads, and can even be informed of threatening hazardous weather conditions.
The majority of data collected by the website comes from automatic sensors placed at various points around the motorway to monitor vehicle speeds. This enables Frixo.com to provide accurate, up-to-date reports faster than other mediums, such as radio. Speed ratings are updated every 3 minutes.
It's the kind of service that normally comes with traffic-reporting subscription services used by commercial vehicles. The key difference is that it's free to use.
The site’s information is also accessible using Frixo’s WAP service, meaning that you can foresee traffic jams, and avoid them, simply by using your mobile phone. As the website is quick to point out, ‘using a mobile phone while driving is dangerous and illegal’ – so it is recommended that your co-adventurer do the navigating, or if you're going solo simply pull over.
