Live in London and want to cut down on your fuel bills by cycling to work? Cycle Fridays could be the answer. Organised by the London Cycling Campaign and promoted by Transport for London, this is a series of free group commuter rides which follow organised routes.
With roughly six different locations to choose from in and around London, all you have to worry about is bringing your bike and your safety gear along with you.
Starting points include Brixton in the south, and Finsbury Park in the north. All routes go through an array of locations within central London, which helps cyclists increase their confidence on busy roads in the city.
Organisers say Cycle Fridays are a great way to build your confidence and help you learn the basics of road safety, and it goes without saying that your fitness will improve too.
The best part of each route is that you won’t be alone – not only will you be accompanied by marshals who will make sure that you feel comfortable and arrive at your destination safe and sound. you will also have the company of all those cycling alongside.
The next Cycle Friday is scheduled for October 2nd and will begin at each start-point at 7.45 am. Although wearing a helmet is optional, if you do bring one the marshal on duty can check to make sure it is roadworthy.
You must be 18 years or older and the London Cycling Campaign advises that you arrive 15 minutes early, leaving enough time to check your bike.
