Today, we can shop from our sofa, talk face-to-face with people through a computer, pause live television; we even have dish-washers that clean themselves. As of now, we can skim stones over Lake Windermere too, all from our office desk.
Well, it was only a matter of time. The Cumbrian Tourism Board has introduced a brand new virtual reality iPhone application that “transports users to the stunning pebbled-shores of either Windermere, Ullswater, Wastwater or Derwentwater, where they can have a go at stone skimming.”
The ‘GoSkimming’ app, is designed to appease executive stress while enticing people to come and visit some of the sights Cumbria has to offer, and as part of the campaign they’ve brought on board the All England Stone Skimming Record Holder Phil ‘The Spin' McChesney.
"The new GoSkimming app is a fun way for busy people to take time out and enjoy the spectacular Cumbrian scenery from anywhere in the world,” said McChesney, whose unbeaten world record stands at 76 metres.
“Players just need to remember to keep a firm grip on their iPhone as they won't achieve any points for throwing that!"
The GoSkimming app has been launched alongside Cumbria Tourism’s brand new mobile site, who are aiming to stay a step ahead of the curve and offer information and help with trip-planning through mobile phones, as well as up-to-the-minute travel information.
Marketing Director for Cumbria Tourism Alex McCoskrie is delighted with the product: "We are incredibly pleased with the new GoSkimming app and are proud to lead the way with our innovative use of technology, making Cumbria more accessible than ever.
“GoSkimming is a new way to entice people to come and see Cumbria's stunning landscape for themselves and try their hand at skimming stones for real."
