Athalon Platinum 21 Wheeling Carry-on
Promise
If you're traveling for an adventure-packed trip, it's often impossible to pack all of your outdoor sports gear and clothes in one bag. Athalon says it has the answer: a leading sport bag company, its Platinum Collection looks great, claims it's incredibly durable (constructed of 'can't be torn' ballistic nylon) and perfect for the outdoor enthusiast who might need their duffel in the woods, on a safari or in a boat. It's got sealed ball bearing wheels, a rubber, contoured side handle and top carry handle, and a telescopic pull handle. And it's disguised as conventional a sports bag.
Performance
When you first open up the zip on the top of the bag, you may not realise it has another compartment underneath: each duffel in Athalon's Platinum Collection comes with a section to hold ski or hiking boots that separates from the main top section. So you can stuff (or fold) your clothes in the top and put your dirty shoes or boots in the bottom – very convenient. There are also zippered side pockets for goggles, glasses and other accessories and ergonomic padded handles (the one on the side is an incredibly tough piece of plastic, built like a chew toy for a pitbull, with added grips).
Verdict
These really are great bags - pockets for everything, extremely tough (it doesn't get much more indestructable than ballistic nylon!), plus it looks good (not that that matters in the jungle) and you can wheel it on to the plane if you've packed a few too many heavy items. Brilliant.
