Ruckjack Switch
Promise
A rucksack that thinks it's a coat - because it is! By a clever use of zips and hidden buckles, the RuckJack transforms in a few easy steps into a fairly large rucksack
Performance
As a coat, the RuckJack has all you need: a fold-down hood, zipped pockets and drawstrings at the bottom to keep the weather out, plus it's water and windproof. It's made of sturdy, breathable ripstop nylon too. To turn it into a bag, you have to use a second zip that closes up the jacket all the way from back to front, creating a kind of stuff sack with the drawstrings now at the top. Inside the cuffs are plastic buckles that clip into a hidden set of buckles in the pockets, turning the sleeves into the rucksack straps.
Verdict
It's fast and easy to transform the RuckJack, and it holds up well as both coat and bag. The only thing that feels a little bit strange is the width of the straps when it's in rucksack form: using the entire sleeve means you end up with a strap that's far wider than a normal bag. Also, there's no facility to adjust the length of the straps at all. But as a handy daypack, it's a great idea for outings, festivals and even bike commuters. They've even thought to provide you with a small stuff sack, so when you have to turn your bag back into a jacket you'll have somewhere to put your bits.
