If reading the books and watching the films aren’t enough for Twilight fans, they can now have a vampire adventure of their own.
Tour operator TrekAmerica has jumped on the Twilight bandwagon and set up a 12-day tour through Oregon and Washington State, visiting many of the locations made famous by the Stephanie Meyer phenomenon.
In-keeping with the supernatural themes of the books, there are four scheduled departures in 2010 with each tour coinciding with the full moon.
Twihards (the name given to obsessed fans of the supernatural series) can immerse themselves in the story of vampire Edward Cullen and his human love Bella Swan with a visit to the town of Forks (a small logging town in the Pacific Northwest of the US where Twilight is set, but wasn't filmed there) to see their homes or stop by Bloated Toad, the restaurant where Bella and Edward had their first date (actually a consultancy firm)
For those on team Jacob (Bella’s werewolf friend) there’s a visit to the Quileute Indian Reservation in La Push.
If Meyer’s world of vampires and werewolves is not for you, however, there is still plenty of stunning scenery to enjoy. Travellers can spend time hiking in Mount Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park and Silver Falls State Park as well as visiting some of the scenic outdoors settings used in the movies – the beach where Jacob tells Bella about Quileute legends and Multnomah Falls where Bella plays baseball with the Cullens.
Travellers can also take in a trip to the famous Mount St. Helen’s to view the crater from the volcano’s 1980 eruption.
The first Twilight Adventure departs Portland, Oregon on May 27th 2010 and costs £699 per person excluding flights. Further departure dates are available in June, July and August 2010.
If the worldwide frenzy which greeted the recent release of the second movie is anything to go by, the people of Oregon and Washington State should get ready for a Twihard invasion.
