Bear Grylls has been parachuted into some of the most inhospitable deserts, jungles and mountains on earth and survived (all the while filming his adventures for TV). So how would the self-styled adventure hero survive a week on a luxury spa break with his young family in Mauritius?
Writing in the Daily Mail he explains that normally long flights are not a problem for him: “Travelling alone, heading off filming and with a book to write, flying long-haul is a relative breeze,” he said. However with his young family on board, things can get tricky: “Spending 12 hours on a plane with three young boys is an entirely different proposition - and can easily become anything but a breeze.”
Even a former SAS man who has scaled Mt Everest and survived breaking his back in three places likes a bit of luxury every now and again and he writes about why he is happy to jet off to achieve this.
Grylls said being away from home normally involves surviving some godforesaken corner of the earth, courtesy of the series' producers' “warped imaginations”.
The adventurer, who has forged a successful career as a motivational speaker, author and TV presenter, is aware that not everyone will approve of the 'born survivor' holidaying in Mauritius, a destination renowned for it’s five star hotels, but he is quick to point out that everyone needs a bit of luxury in their lives.
“As we used to say in the military: work hard, play hard. It is a great ethic to live by and I do so unashamedly,” he told the paper.
