Women love slow travel

New survey discovers that women are most likely to linger on their adventures

A survey conducted by Oz-Bus, the only adventure company to take passengers by bus all the way from London to Sydney, Kathmandu and New York, has revealed some surprising results almost one year on from the launch of the pioneering overland journeys.

Of the 300 passengers that Oz-Bus has transported across the globe over the last 12 months, almost 60% were female, while nearly a quarter were over 60 years old. More than 70% of the passengers said that they had no fixed plans for onward travel once they reached their final destination, proving that the adventure is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.

Oz-Bus owner Alastair Chrystal is glad that his customers aren’t just the dreadlocked student cliché: “During the early months of trading in 2009, it became clear that the more mature market was going to make up the bulk of our business and it also became obvious that ladies have a strong gravitation to our product for a variety of reasons.”

The first ever Oz-bus trip which departed London on 21st March heading for New York included an 18 year old male student and an 81 year old grandmother. The oldest passenger previously was the company’s senior ambassador Tony Barker, 78. Oz-Bus delights in being such a hit with the older generation. As Chrystal says: “Oz-Bus is the ultimate proof that you are never to old for anything.”
