The Saltrock Open surf competition once again returns to Croyde on Whitsun weekend (May 29th – 30th), and this year’s event looks to be the biggest yet. The event will play host to surfers from across the UK and has become one of the most significant stops on the UK surf circuit.
The Saltrock Open in Croyde has grown in stature over the years thanks to epic conditions and some noteworthy performances from seasoned pros as well as newcomers. The man to beat this year will be current champion Glen Hall who hails from Australia.
Spectators can expect to enjoy fantastic displays from the cream of surfing across the whole spectrum including some very strong women’s surfing where the UK has recently been excelling, and there are certain to be some fantastic performances on display in the junior competition.
Categories include: Open, Women's, Pro Junior, U16 Girls, U16 Boys & U12 Open. Relentless will provide a prize of £250 for the Biggest Aerial, and King Of Watersports.com will provide a £200 Skateboard for the highest scoring wave for men and women.
Dave Reed, UK PST Director is very excited about the competition: “After a difficult two years for the surfing industry, it’s great to be able to showcase the country’s top talent in a fantastic location like Croyde. Its also good to be working with the team at Saltrock again, who are a great proponent of South West surfing and who I’m glad to say are looking forward to a big future.”
One of the original founders of Saltrock, Ross Thomson, is thrilled to be once again sponsoring the event. “Everyone knows Saltrock has recently weathered a storm, but we’re back fighting and things are bigger and better then ever. We’re all looking forward to the Saltrock Open and proud to be once again sponsoring such a fantastic event for both the surfing community and the South West.”
