Vango eco Green Tee tent
Promise
Gaze at the stars from the comfort of your own tepee – and you won't have to worry about your ecological footprint either.
Performance
It’s easy to be alarmed about the amount of man-made materials that get discarded in the name of camping. Anyone leaving a festival will tell you with rueful sorrow of the drooping masses of tents that litter the sites: it’s time that gear manufacturers started to address the fact that tents need to begin conforming to higher standards, and that means using greener materials throughout – like this Vango design, in fact.
The Green Tee is a roomy, single-skin tepee tent that uses recycled materials wherever possible: the flysheet, window covers, storage areas, inner tent and carry bags are all created from old plastic bottles.
Big enough for five at a push, or for two with a bit of elbow room, there’s a tidy skylight for stargazing, as well as a massive door that can flap up and be supported with extra poles for a covered cooking and dining area. Extra vents provide great airflow, while a tall storm skirt keeps damp at bay.
The whole tent can be put up as one piece in around five minutes – and although it’s never going to tick the lightweight box, at 7.2kg it’s still more than light enough to carry in a pack with plenty of other gear.
Verdict
A step in the right direction for camping – and a great purchase for casual campers this year.
