A 3-megapixel, pocket-sized digital video camera ideal for uploading clips to YouTube
Performance
First thing's first: this nicely designed little gadget is the perfect size to slip in your pocket and capture those outdoor gems you don't want to miss on film - particularly if your mobile phone doesn't have video capabilities (mine doesn't). If it's light outside, the quality is ideal for uploading to sites like YouTube and viewing on its smaller screen. The resolution isn't so hot if the sun has all but gone down or if you plan to watch your directorial debut on a 50 inch flat screen TV with a box of popcorn. But to be fair, it isn't designed for that - it's designed as a handy, small device for those on the go. And that's why we thought it would be perfect for WideWorlders. Unfortunately, while it gets the thumbs up for design, size, ease of use and price (it's unbelievably cheap), the battery life is severely lacking. We tried the two AAs that come bundled with the camera, and they lasted about as long as it took to pull the camera out four or five times and shoot a minute or so of footage on each occasion. Batteries that come bundled are always cheap and worthless, you say. So we bought a reliable pack of Duracels and while they admittedly lasted a little longer, it wasn't by much. Now, here's the deal - this gadget is great if 1. you don't already have a video camera on your phone, 2. if you buy a pack of rechargable batteries and remember the charger when you walk out the door, and 3. if you're happy shooting just a couple of minutes of footage here and there.
Verdict
We like it. We don't love it. But we recommend it if you need a lightweight, easy-to-use device to capture those brief moments when you scaled Snowdon or finished your first marathon.
