The Big Trip
Promise
This is a bible for anyone who's dreamt of jetting off for that once-in-a-lifetime jaunt around the globe. With 336 pages rammed with genuinely useful advice gleaned from Lonely Planet's decades of experience, it'll teach you everything you need to set up, travel and come home safe with your memories.
Performance
For a Big Trip, you need a big book. Lonely Planet don't disappoint. They cover everything, from tickets, holiday jobs, trails and routes - even stuff like the most overrated destinations and popular urban myths that you can discount at the planning stage. This isn't a coffee table book to show off with: they fight the temptation to pad out with photos and don't shy away from page after page of hard information. Importantly, they repeat the message that by printing a route in a book it's already a tourist trail - use this guide wisely and you'll be up to your own adventures instead.
Verdict
Grab a copy and devour it at home when you're in the planning stages. It's too heavy to take with you, so be prepared to rip pages when you depart - and use them.
