Philips PET744 portable DVD player
Promise
Make long journeys whiz by in style with a truly flashy DVD player that boasts longer battery performance than its rivals. But will it beat an iPod for ease of use?
Performance
The quest for a brilliant, satisfying watch of a movie or TV show when you’re on the move isn’t over yet. Pocket media players can only give you so much: screen sizes are so titchy that your eyes will water. There’s clearly still a market open for the portable DVD player, particularly for the traveller who has ample space and weight for luggage.
This model has a great 180-degree swiveling screen – so you can watch it easily even if the person in front of you reclines their seat. And the real selling point here is resolution: the 7” screen has a 800x480 playback that at this scale feels just like a quality TV, while six hours of playback can give you a triple-bill movie session without recharging.
Verdict
One for the pro traveler, coach and plane frequenters – it’s never going to score with the lightweight types, but they’re hardly in it for the movies, are they?
