It seems we all know what surfers listened to back in the '60s, but what do the current crop have on their iPod playlists? Gwen Spurlock was last year's UK Pro Surf Tour Women's Champion – in addition to snagging the Welsh Junior and British Junior titles she'd already won that year. In the latest in our occasional series, Spurlock tells WideWorld what she's listening to on her mp3 player as she trains for this year's competitions.
Akon, Beautiful
I'm a big fan of R 'n' B music and this is probably my favourite song from Akon's new stuff!
Craig David, Fill me in
I love Craig David but I prefer his old stuff. I can listen to this song when I'm trying to chill out travelling (I've just got back from surfing in Bali)
David Guetta, I Wanna go Crazy
I've seen David Guetta live and I love his new album. This song gets me all excited so it's really good to listen to before I go surfing.
Enrique Iglesias, Taking Back my Love
As well as enjoying R 'n' B and dance music, I have to add a bit of commercial pop music (I am a teenage girl, after all). And who doesn't love a bit of Enrique?
Fallout Boy, Thanks for the Memories
I listened to this song a lot on a surf trip to the Dominican Republic. It's just a fun, up-beat rock/pop song!
Jay Sean, Down
Back to my love of R 'n' B music. This Jay Sean song is an amazing car blaster, while singing along as loud as possible!
Justin Timberlake, Cry me a River
I lived in America when the boy band phenomenon was at its peak so I was in love with N Sync – and in particular Justin Timberlake. This is an all-time tune! I can listen to this song any time of the day.
Lady Gaga, Bad Romance
As soon as I heard Lady Gaga I loved her music. She is absolutely crazy and I like listening to her when I want to get psyched up for a surfing tournament
Dizzie Rascal, Bonkers
My mum thinks this song was made specifically for me. This was my number one summer tune of '09 Woo hooo!
Rude Boy, Rihanna
This is a new-ish tune. I heard it while I was in Australia and loved it. It reminds me of my travels to surfing competitions so it's always a good song to listen to, to make me happy!
I have to make a special mention my love for Usher – oh, and his music!
