Plenty of people climb Everest for good causes. But wouldn’t the enormous cost of putting on the trip be better spent if it was simply given away to a good cause? That’s the conundrum coined by two British fundraisers who have founded – and completed – their own challenge.
This weekend, Bryn Posey and Darren Edwards put themselves through the UK Everest Challenge: a trip that involves climbing ten of the nation’s hardest peaks with a cumulative height equal to that of Everest.
They completed the ten-peak challenge in just 29 hours, covering 122km of ascent and descent, and raising money for Help for Heroes, Children with Leukemia, National Association of Crohn’s & Colitis Disease, and Skill Force Development.
"I had to really dig deep more than a few times, I was amazed that my body just kept going,” Edwards said on finishing. “I firmly believe it was the reasons behind why we were on these mountains, at 4,000 ft up, in dense fog and heavy rain that kept us going. Both Bryn and myself picked up leg injuries that will take time or possible surgery to fix, but neither of us was going to fail in our goal of completing the event and boosting our fundraising further."??
