Timex Expedition WS4
Promise
There’s a platform in this timepiece for everything you might need from a wrist when you’re up a mountain: altimeter, barometer, thermometer, chronograph, alarm and compass. What’s more, it’s been developed hand in hands with some top mountaineers to give it that edge which most ‘expedition’ watches lack.
Performance
When something has been tested in the world’s toughest terrain by the likes of Conrad Anker – the man who found the body of George Mallory up Everest – it’s got some serious credentials. Part of its usefulness is a dashboard design that gives a heads-up display of all the functions you need, so there’s less fiddling about with frozen fingers.
Verdict
We’ll leave it to Conrad to give this one: “I put the Timex Expedition WS4 through all kinds of torture testing during our latest expedition to India’s Garhwal Himalaya range,” he says. “It was especially helpful in alerting us to a sudden snowstorm that blew in, and we were able to wait it out safely in our Portaledge.”
