Exploring and trekking holidays are becoming more and more popular thanks in no small part to the televised escapades of inspirational celebrities and adventurers, according to a UK adventure holiday company.

Ben Fogle and his ilk have made an impact, inspiring adventure seekers with a taste for adrenalin and the outdoors, says The Adventure Company. Even the most unlikely celebrities are proving to be motivational – Chris Moyles joined Cheryl Cole among others, to partake in the Mount Kilimanjaro climb for Comic Relief at the start of the year.

The Adventure Company has seen an increase in bookings in destinations including the Inca Trail (a 32% rise) and 16-day expedition ‘The Himalayan Explorer’ receiving a 25% boost. Nepal is reportedly the most popular location, with ‘The Annapurna Circuit’ trek seeing a 26% rise in bookings this year.

STA Travel has also noticed a boom in such excursions, revealing a 10% rise in sales of adventure tours. John Constable, Group MD commented: “Travellers are getting increasingly ambitious as they endeavor to get the most out of their holiday time.

“With amazing offers right now it’s a great time to experience some of the less well-trodden places such as Kicking Horse river in the Canadian Rockies with its exhilarating white water rafting or North Drakensberg in South Africa where you can find possibly the most dramatic one-day hike in the world.”
