Clix car safe harness
Promise
Developed by renowned dog behaviourist Dr Roger Mugford, this is a special harness that plugs straight into standard seatbelt sockets for easy and safe transport of your dog.
Performance
Believe it or not, car safety isn’t that high on your pet’s list of interests. ABS, airbags and scrumple zones have hardly registered for them. What they like is seeing out of the windows, not falling into the footwells when you brake, and sniffing everything in sight. It’s a shame that many people don’t realise you can have safety while still letting your dog feel its freedom inside the car: you don't need to box them up in a crate or dispatch them behind bars in the boot.
The idea behind this harness isn’t that new, but the build quality and design makes it worth seeking out. Basically, plug your dog into the car and it won’t fly around if you need to make sharp manoeuvres – and it won’t cause any injuries by flying around the cockpit too.
The harness works with an X-crossing design that spreads any tension, plus there’s soft neoprene woven into all the points that touch the dog’s body. A clever addition to the design is a metal plug that's the same as is used on your seatbelts in the car, so you can simply plug the harness into an empty seatbelt socket and drive off knowing you’re safe.
The Clix comes in four sizes, from Yorkshire Terrier to German Shepherd – we’re guessing if you’re driving round with anything bigger, you may want to get Fido off the backseat.
Verdict
Handy, light and practical, this is a great item for dog owners who want convenience and safety at the same time – when you’re in the great outdoors for the day, it’s always more enjoyable if your little friend comes too…
