Barbegrill
Promise
Gas-powered convenience for barbecue nuts
Performance
All men love to barbecue at the drop of a hat, but getting a grill out to the beach or down at the park usually means fiddling about with a dirty, greasy ash-covered unit. Step up to the Barbegrill: it runs off butane gas cartridges to deliver a BBQ-style grilling experience with none of the mess – or uncontrollable heat bursts. You can dial the power up or down depending on what you’re eating. It’s smaller than you’d like unless there’s only two of you eating, so for large groups you’ll need to form an orderly line for the snags.
Verdict
Purists will scoff, of course: barbecues are only correctly done the Ray Mears way with woodcraft, lung power and bits of animal gizzards in a leaf. For the back-of-the-car barbecuer, this is an astonishingly cheap deal – and better for the environment than disposable BBQ packs too.
