Promise

The first fully recycled, biodegradable, recyclable water bottle for the outdoor enthusiast that actually breaks down into beneficial compounds once its "useful" life is over.  The manufacturer has developed a special compound that when added to a traditional plastic bottle, allows the bottle to break down in an ordinary landfill in one to five years, as opposed to the infinite-lifetime of a traditional water bottle.

Encouragingly, it doesn't begin to break down until it "hits the 'chemical soup' of a landfill" apparently. Plus they free of BPA (an organic compound frequently used in plastics and thought to be hazardous to human health).

Performance

Difficult one to review really. It works like, er, a water bottle. Very drinkable. The real test, of course, is whether its claims that it breaks down within five years in landfill into a harmless 'soup' is accurate. And considering I've only been living with my bottle for about a week, it's a bit difficult to say.

Verdict

It gets my vote just for being BPA-free.
