Fire up the Grylls!

Born Survivor returns to TV

by WideWorld

13.05.2009

With a trademark mouthful of worms, tarantulas and – in what has to be a TV first – undigested apples salvaged from bear scat – you can’t beat a bit of Bear Grylls. He’s the armchair adventurer’s outdoorsman of choice, and he’s finally back for another series of Born Survivor.

Travelling through the Carpathians, Siberia, Belize and the Yukon, amongst others, you’ll be able to see Bear crossing rapids, falling off cliffs and pole-vaulting canyons in his mission to bring survival techniques to everyone. And then there’s the food.

“If I had to make a shortlist of the most disgusting things I’ve tried,” he says, “it would be bear shit, camel stomach juice, raw goat’s testicles, yak eyeballs. I’ve learned what just tastes disgusting but is OK, and what tastes disgusting for a reason. Sometimes you make mistakes. If something’s rancid, you don’t really know until it’s in your mouth.”

Come back and read WideWorld's interview with Bear Grylls next week.

Born Survivor, Channel 4, Saturdays at 7pm
