In a plainly ridiculous record attempt that the most Edwardian of explorers would applaud, a British team have played the world's highest cricket match. Yep, in April this year two squads marched a nine-day trek up to the plateau of Gorak Shep, set up their pitch and played a full 20/20 match at the dizzying altitude of 5165m.
Despite the thin air being compared to being like breathing through a straw, some impressive scores managed to be held - with opening batsman, and team captain David Kirtley putting on an respectable 82 for the first wicket.
The two teams slogged out the lofty meet to raise more that £250,000 for The Himalayan Trust UK and The Lord's Taverners in the ECB recognised match of 20 overs.
In true British style, this clash took place on - when else - the Queen's Birthday. Flags were raised, tea was quaffed and the loyal toast upheld.
